history, anyone?

i don't know what gets into me when i see these rare books…specially if they are about history, i feel my blood would just bulge out of my veins, such is its speed.

so during the short break from the job…i just wandered into te special collections division of the library…having absolutely no idea of what i want to read.

but found this:

Some years travels into divers parts of Africa, and Asia the Great.
Herbert, Thomas, Sir, 1606-1682.
London, Printed by R. Everingham, for R. Scot, T. Basset, J. Wright, and R. Chiswell, 1677.

uff…was i excited or what??

librarian also handed me a scratch paper to take notes, thinking that like the other dozen or so students there, i was doing some research as well.
Now i couldn't tell him he was wrong, right?? so i started jolting some interesting naming patterns from this book. the author talks about when he was in india and that was 1626…

here are some bits about how names of some cities appeared :

pattana
soughtar
banaras
sonargan
tanda
bucola
seripore
chatigan
agray
delly
chyna

some of these ofcourse make sense but some are just really unrecognizable for me…

he also talked about Mahomet's Alcoran which presumably is Mohammad's Quran

i'll surely go there when i have time on hands and actually go through this book.
